Hattiesburg, Miss. - The No. 5 LSUS Pilots fell for the fourth consecutive outing, as the William Carey Crusaders picked up a 2-1 victory over the visitors from Shreveport on Friday night.
Carey's Derek Thompson struck out 11 batters and allowed just six hits, while throwing a complete-game win on the mound for the Crusaders.
Justin Ennis suffered his first loss of the season despite going the distance and not allowing a single earned run in the contest. He allowed only five hits in the game, while Carey's two runs came in the fourth inning via two LSUS throwing errors.
LSUS jumped in front of the home team 1-0 in the top of the first on a two-out RBI double by senior Brent Lavallee. The Pilots looked to add a few more runs in the first, but Thompson got the Crusaders out of the jam with one of his 11 strikeouts to end the threat.
David Bradley was the only Pilot to finish the night with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a double in the loss.
LSUS (30-8, 20-3) currently holds a 1.5 game lead over William Carey (23-13, 19-5) in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference standings. The two teams will meet again in a pivotal doubleheader on Saturday, in which the Pilots will look to end their season-long four-game losing streak.
