Student Organizations

Association of Student Accountants
The purpose of the Accounting Student Association is to provide the opportunity for students to network and interact with professionals and academic personnel outside the classroom.  For more information, contact Dr. Carl Smolinski.

MBA Association
The MBA Association is a student organization that promotes the quality and professionalism of the MBA experience. The association has become a networking group and has afforded bonds of friendship and educational support for all who participate.  Contact Dr. Bill Bigler for more information.

Rotaract

Rotaract is an international organization of service clubs for men and women that fosters leadership and responsible citizenship, encourages high ethical standards in business, and promotes international understanding and peace. Rotaract Clubs work under the guidance of their local Rotary Club, and take their name from a combination of the words Rotary and action.

The purpose of Rotaract is to provide an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.  Contact Dean Charlotte Jones or Dr. Stan Hays for more information. 

Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)
The purpose of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is to help students broaden their understanding of the management career field; to keep students up to date on current issues in the human resource career field; to offer opportunities to meet human resource managers from the Shreveport/Bossier area; to help the students develop and broaden their education to prepare them for a career in management (specifically human resources).  Contact Dr. John Vassar for more information.

Student Finance Association
The purpose of the Student Finance Association is to provide the opportunity for students of all majors to learn more about Finance and related fields through interaction with professionals and academic personnel outside the classroom. For more information contact Dr. Tim Vines.

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)

SIFE is a global non-profit organization active in more than 40 countries. SIFE is funded by financial contributions from corporations, entrepreneurs, foundations, government agencies and individuals. Working in partnership with business and higher education, SIFE establishes student teams on university campuses. These teams are led by faculty advisors and they are challenged to develop community outreach projects that reach SIFE's five educational topics:

  • Market Economics
  • Success Skills
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Financial Literacy
  • Business Ethics

Honor Societies

Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society
Beta Gamma Sigma is the honor society for business programs Accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Membership is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in an undergraduate or master's program at a school Accredited by AACSB International. To be eligible for membership, the academic ranking of those being considered must place them in the upper 7 percent of the junior class, upper 10 percent of the senior class, or upper 20 percent of the graduating master's class.

Omicron Delta Kappa Society (ODK)

Omicron Delta Kappa Society (ODK) is the national leadership honor society for college students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership, and exemplary character. Membership in ODK is a mark of the highest distinction and honor.

The purpose of ODK is threefold: (1) To recognize those who have exhibited a high standard of leadership and effectiveness in collegiate activities; (2) To bring together student leaders from all sectors of collegiate life in order to help mold the sentiment of the university for questions of local and collegiate interest; (3) To bring together members of the faculty and the student body on a basis of mutual interest and understanding.

Phi Kappa Phi
Phi Kappa Phi is an academic honor society dedicated to the recognition and promotion of academic excellence in all fields of higher education. Those elected to membership in Phi Kappa Phi include the upper five- percent of last-term juniors and the upper ten-percent of seniors, along with outstanding graduate students, faculty, and alumni. More than 1,000,000 scholars have been inducted into Phi Kappa Phi.

Sigma Iota Epsilon (SIE)
(SIE) is a national honorary and professional management fraternity affiliated with the Academy of Management. The goals of SIE are:

  • To stimulate interest and achievement in the field of management;
  • To stimulate scholarship in management;
  • To facilitate contacts between students and practicing managers;
  • To recognize persons who have made contributions to the field of management;
  • To gain recognition of the contribution and value of scholastic achievement in the management discipline.
