Mexico
The Fall Break trip to Mexico is an annual four-day, small-group, business field trip. Because we do not earn any course credit, it is an official activity within the LSUS Continuing Education program. Participants will be visiting several foreign production facilities (maquiladoras) in Reynosa, Northern Mexico, and spend a day in Monterrey, the largest city in Northern Mexico. Students will be staying in a motel in McAllen, South Texas (approximately 10 miles from the border). The field trip is a wonderful opportunity for all participants to obtain a sneak preview of other business practices and cultures.

Germany
As part of a collaboration between LSUS and Germany's FHNON university in Lüneburg, LSUS students have the opportunity to study 'Issues in European Business' on location! The two-week course takes place between the Spring and Summer I semesters. Students earn three elective credit hours and will be back in time for Summer I and II.

Business Mentor Programs
The Business Mentor Program is a unique program that pairs LSUS business undergraduates one-on-one with business leaders in the community. Activities are designed to expose students to many different professional situations to gain a better understanding of the dynamics of the business community. To be considered for the program, students must have junior or senior standing and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Following acceptance into the program, students are matched with a mentor who most closely meets their needs and interests. The mentoring relationship involves approximately eight hours during the first semester and is encouraged to continue until the student's graduation. While internship and career placement opportunities may develop, the mentoring relationship is viewed primarily as an enrichment experience. Students do not earn college credit for participating in the program. For additional information, contact Mr. Wayne Hogue at (318)797-5276 or by email at whogue@lsus.edu.

Business Internship Program
The College of Business Internship Program offers students an opportunity to gain work experience in their chosen field, obtaining valuable real world experience, while also getting 3 hours of 400-level college credit in their major. Internship jobs are competitively applied and interviewed for and the student becomes a temporary, usually part-time, employee of the organization.

The Director of the Internship Program can assist in job searches, however, students should seek out appropriate internship positions on their own also. A portion of the Internship learning experience is the job search and winning the job through the resume and interview process. Jobs can be with most any organization, locally or not, but they must me a new, pre-professional position. Most major corporations and organizations have structured Internship Programs with specific application instructions that students should research.

Frequently, internship positions lead to offers of full-time employment for interns. The advantage for organizations participating in the internship program is it is an excellent way to support their community by helping to educate and employ students. Also, the internship period is a no obligation trial period for both the organization and the student. Neither party is obligated beyond the required 120 hours. Also, leading firms attempt to recruit top students as interns in order to have an advantage when recruiting them for full time positions after graduation. Top firms have learned that it is easier to get top employees into the firm as students rather than after they graduate.

Students must meet eligibility requirements of 60+ hours completed and a 2.75 GPA (or 3.0 over the last 24 hours). Interested students submit a completed application and a current professional resume to the Director of the Internship Program. Click here to download the 475 Internship Requirements Packet.

Those interested in more information about the Business Internship Program may call Mr. Wayne Hogue at (318) 797-5276 or e-mail him at wayne,hogue@lsus.edu.

The program has the following objectives:

• To provide a vehicle for preparing future citizens who will make a constructive contribution to the economic and social life of the community

• To provide meaningful on-the-job experiences for students in a career-related field

• To provide an opportunity for students to earn money while continuing their education

• To provide opportunities to transform business, industry, and public agencies into expanded education & training sites

Students complete a minimum of 120 hours of work for the organization, maintain a weekly log of the work experience, and prepare a final report. Each student intern is paired with a faculty mentor who assists the intern. Students receive three hours of college credit for successful completion of their internship responsibilities. University Work Services
The University Work Services Program (University 200) is an internship program where students earn college credit and gain valuable job experience and career planning skills at the same time. The internship involves approximately 15-20 hours of work per week in an existing job or a new job closely related to the student's major. These internships are available at any number of local area businesses. Self employment does not qualify for this program.

Any full-time student who is enrolled full-time at LSUS, has completed at least 24 credit hours and has a cumulative GPA of 2.2 is eligible for University 200. For additional information, visit the University 200 office in BE 334, or phone (318) 797-5052. You may also email dplayer@lsus.edu.
