Dr. Smolinski received his B.S. from Northern Arizona University. He also received a M.A. in History from Louisiana Tech University. He received his M.B.A. and D.B.A., both with a concentration in accounting, from Louisiana Tech University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants, the Institute of Management Accountants, and the American Accounting Association.
Dr. Smolinski's research interests include aspects of accounting theory such as valuation of assets and liabilities in financial reporting. He is also interested in accounting history, especially accounting in the Ancient World and Middle Ages.
Presentations include "Reporting Comprehensive Income: FASB 130 Helps Accountants 'Get a Grip' on the Mixed Accounting Model Supported in the Standards" with Elizabeth V. Mulig and James H. Sellers, presented to the Southwestern Federation of Administrative Disciplines (SWFAD), March (2000).
Dr. Smolinski's primary teaching interests include financial accounting, especially accounting principles and intermediate accounting. He also teaches introductory managerial accounting and previously taught the upper division cost/managerial accounting course for several years. He teaches accounting theory every year as an accounting elective.
