Candace Rushing begins her first season as a graduate assistant for the women's soccer program at LSU Shreveport. Rushing recently graduated in May of 2012 with academic and departmental honors from Centenary College with a degree in Elementary Education.
While seeking a degree from Centenary, Rushing was leading the Centenary Ladies on the soccer field, too. Rushing was a four year starter for the Ladies, and was selected as team captain her final season.
Rushing was named to the 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 Fall Academic All-Summit League Teams, the 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence, and the ASC Fall Distinguished Scholar-Athletes List. She was also nominated for Summit League "Player of the Week" on two occasions. She started in all but four games during her career at Centenary. Rushing tallied 22 points during her stint for the Ladies.
While attending Centenary, Rushing began coaching as an assistant at C. E. Byrd High School for the girls' soccer team as well as adding club Shreveport United to her resume. She is currently in her fourth year with the club and the Yellow Jackets.
Rushing grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, where she graduated from Cordova High School in May of 2007. She played semi-professional for Memphis Mercury for one season as well as for multiple club teams throughout her time in Memphis before attending Centenary College. She has an older brother, Brandon, a twin brother, Cameron, and a stepsister Maggie. Her parents are Randal Rushing and JemmiLou Rye.
Rushing will get her Master's in Educational Leadership while at LSU Shreveport. She hopes to become either a college soccer coach or an elementary school principal.
