Women's Soccer: UTB blanks Lady Pilots
October 18, 2012
SHREVEPORT, La. - The University of Texas at Brownsville women's soccer team extended their winning streak to 10 games and their consecutive shutout streak to nine with a 3-0 win over the LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots on Thursday afternoon at The Swamp.
LSUS (8-6, 5-3 RRAC) started the game fast and furious as forward Sandra Quintero quickly broke through the UTB back line but her shot hit the crossbar and went over the goal as the Lady Pilots just missed the game's first goal. But that would come a minute later as Tabiata Viera countered to give UTB (10-3, 8-0 RRAC) a 1-0 lead.
The visitors added some insurance during the 34th minute again off the boot of Viera and two minutes later Lorena Cardona added the final goal. UTB outshot LSUS 18-8 placing half of their shots on goal. LSUS keeper Shay Wells made six saves in the game.
The Lady Pilots will take on Our Lady of the Lake University on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. for Senior Day.
