Women's Soccer Announces 2008 Schedule

July 30, 2008

Shreveport, La. – LSUS head women’s soccer coach Jed Jones announced his team’s 2008 slate, which features six NCAA Division 1 opponents and the first-ever LSUS Invitational.

The Lady Pilots will open up the 2008 season versus two NCAA programs in the Jackson State Invitational on Aug. 22-23.  LSUS will face Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the first game of the invitational on Friday, and then will play host Jackson State on Saturday afternoon.

A challenging non-conference schedule is highlighted by a two-match tournament hosted by LSUS.  In the inaugural LSUS Invitational, the Lady Pilots will play Oklahoma City University on Saturday, Aug. 30 before taking on another Sooner Athletic Conference foe, Oklahoma Christian University, on Monday, Sept. 1.

Other non-conference opponents include a home date with Alcorn State (Sept. 8) and road games versus Southern-Baton Rouge (Sept 12.), ETBU (Sept. 13), Prairie View A&M (Sept. 19) and Texas Southern (Sept. 20).

“We have a very challenging non-conference schedule this year, but we also have a very experienced team coming back,” said head coach Jed Jones.  “Our non-conference schedule should help prepare us for another tough GCAC season and postseason play.”

The GCAC schedule will also present its share of challenges, as the Lady Pilots will play four of their first five conference games on the road.  LSUS begins GCAC play on Oct. 1 versus Belhaven, and then will travel to face the reigning GCAC Champions, William Carey University, on Oct. 4.  A home date versus Mobile (Oct. 9) is sandwiched in between the four road games, which concludes with dates against Mobile (Oct. 16) and Spring Hill (Oct. 18).

The Lady Pilots will finish up their regular season with a three-game home stand versus William Carey (Oct. 25), Belhaven (Nov. 1) and Spring Hill (Nov. 8) before entering postseason play on Nov. 11.

The Lady Pilots return six starters off of last year’s 11-8-1 squad, and the team will report for training camp on Monday, Aug. 4.
