Women's Soccer Announces 2007 Schedule

July 30, 2007

Shreveport, LA---Third year LSUS head women’s soccer coach Jed Jones and the defending Gulf Coast Athletic Conference champion Lady Pilots announced its 2007 schedule Monday, highlighted by three NCAA Division 1 opponents and four perennial NAIA top 25 programs.

Last season, the Lady Pilots finished the year with a school record 14 wins, captured their first ever GCAC championship, and made their second consecutive NAIA Region XII tournament appearance.  A tough non-conference slate this season should help prepare the Lady Pilots for an always challenging conference season and their quest to repeat as conference champions.

“Over the past couple of years our schedule has continued to get more and more difficult, and this year is no exception,” Jones said.  “Our 2007 schedule is probably the hardest schedule in the program's short history.  When you take into account the quality of each opponent and combine that with the fact that we have a very young team, it makes for a very challenging, fun, and exciting season.”

The 2007 version of the Lady Pilots will make their first appearance of the season at “The Swamp” on Aug. 19 for an exhibition contest versus NCAA Division 1 opponent Louisiana Tech.

The Lady Pilots will open up the regular season on Aug. 25 with a home contest against the Union University Lady Bulldogs.  Union will make the trip to Shreveport with revenge on their minds, as LSUS defeated them last year on their home turf, 2-0.

After beginning the season at home, the Lady Pilots will travel to Pulaski, Tennessee, for the Martin Methodist tournament (Sept. 1-2).  In the first game, the Lady Pilots will face the 2005 NAIA National champion Martin Methodist College Lady RedHawks.  The competition won’t get any easier as the Lady Pilots will then play the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference champions and 2006 NAIA National Tournament qualifier St. Xavier the very next day.

The team will then travel to Mississippi for a date with NCAA opponent Alcorn State (Sept. 5).  The Lady Pilots will face the Lady Braves twice this season with the second contest being played in Shreveport (Sep. 18).

Following three consecutive road games, the Lady Pilots will return home for a brief homestand against NAIA opponent Le Tourneau and NCAA opponent Southern University - Baton Rouge (Sept. 8-9).  The Lady Pilots defeated Le Tourneau, 1-0, and SUBR, 6-0 and 4-0, last season.

The Lady Pilots will again hit the road for their first conference game of the 2007 season and another non-conference tournament in Montgomery, Alabama.  The defense of the 2006 GCAC regular season title will begin in Jackson, Mississippi, against the Lady Blazers of Belhaven (Sept. 12).  After the conference opener, the Lady Pilots will travel to face host Auburn University Montgomery in the AUM Tournament (Sept. 15-16).  AUM finished last season ranked #19 in the NAIA women’s soccer final rating.

After a home contest with Alcorn State (Sept. 18), conference play resumes with four consecutive games at “The Swamp.”  The Lady Pilots will face Mobile (Sept. 22), Belhaven (Oct. 2), William Carey (Oct. 5), and Spring Hill (Oct. 7).

The Lady Pilots will travel to Mobile, Alabama for two more games against Mobile (Oct. 11) and Spring Hill (Oct. 13).  The tough road swing and GCAC regular season schedule will conclude with an away contest at William Carey (Oct. 20).

The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference women’s soccer tournament will take place from Oct. 24-27 at a site to be determined.

The Lady Pilots will report Aug. 1 for the beginning of fall practice.
