Women's Soccer Advances to Region XIII Semifinals

October 30, 2007

Shreveport, La. - The LSUS women’s soccer team made history with their first ever postseason victory, and will advance to the Region XIII Tournament semifinals after defeating #14 Auburn University-Montgomery 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

LSUS wasted no time scoring the game’s first goal, as freshman Caitlin Smith knocked in a shot from the top of the box at the 6:58 mark in the first half.  Smith’s goal came off of a give-and-go pass from junior Calandre Singh, giving LSUS an early 1-0 lead.

Smith’s goal would be all of the scoring the Lady Pilots would need, as LSUS goalkeeper Kelsi McNew shut down a high-powered AUM offense.

Although LSUS was outshot by the home team 18-5 on the afternoon, McNew came up with save after save and did not allow AUM to ever get on the scoreboard.  McNew finished the game with nine saves and recorded her eighth shutout of the season.

With the victory, LSUS moves to 10-6-1 on the season, and will face #1 Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., on Thursday evening.
