Women's Basketball Schedule Features Five NCAA Division 1 Opponents

September 06, 2007

Shreveport, La. - Thirteen regular season home games and five NCAA Division 1 opponents highlight the 2007-08 LSUS Lady Pilots schedule, announced today by Head Coach Ronnie Howell.

“We have put together probably the toughest non-conference schedule we have had in five years,” commented Howell.  “The travel and the quality of opponents throughout November and December will certainly prepare us for an always tough GCAC slate.”

The 2007-08 version of the Lady Pilots will take the court for the first time on November 1 for an exhibition game versus McNeese State University in Lake Charles.  The Lady Pilots will also face NCAA Division 1 opponents Centenary College (11/6), Lamar University (11/10), UL-Lafayette (12/9) and Northwestern State (12/29) in exhibition contests throughout the early portion of the season.

LSUS opens the regular season on November 3 in Dallas, Texas, for a non-conference game versus Paul Quinn College.  This will be the first of two meetings between the two schools on the season as Paul Quinn will travel to Shreveport for the Lady Pilots Classic on December 14-15.

The Lady Pilots will make their first appearance of the season at “The Dock” on November 12 for the home opener versus Jarvis Christian College.  Three nights later, the Lady Pilots will welcome NCAA Division 2 opponent Texas A&M-Kingsville to “The Dock” for a non-conference showdown.

After the brief home stand, LSUS will hit the road for four consecutive games in the state of Texas.  The Lady Pilots will face UT-Tyler (11/17), ETBU (11/26), Texas Wesleyan (12/4), and Jarvis Christian College (12/6) before returning home to host the second annual Lady Pilots Classic December 14-15 at “The Dock” on the LSUS campus.

In addition to the host school, the Lady Pilots Classic will feature fellow Gulf Coast Athletic Conference member Belhaven College and Red River Athletic Conference members Paul Quinn and Wiley College.  On Friday night, LSUS will host Paul Quinn College in the first game of the classic.  Saturday will provide local fans with two GCAC vs. RRAC match-ups when Belhaven takes on Paul Quinn in the first game and LSUS faces Wiley College in the night cap.

LSUS will open up the New Year and conference play in New Orleans on January 3.  The Lady Pilots travel to face Loyola University-New Orleans (1/3) in the conference opener, and then will play Southern University-New Orleans (1/5) two nights later.

Belhaven College and Dillard University will be the first two conference opponents to make an appearance at “The Dock” in 2008.  LSUS will host Belhaven (1/10), and then will take on Dillard (1/12).

Following the brief two game home stand, the Lady Pilots will make one of the tougher road trips on the year to Mobile, Alabama.  In Mobile, the Lady Pilots will face Spring Hill College (1/17) and the University of Mobile Lady Rams (1/19).

On January 23, the Lady Pilots will return home for a four game stretch at “The Dock” beginning with the always tough Xavier University Golden Nuggets.  The Lady Pilots will conclude the home stand with contests against William Carey College (1/26), Tougaloo College (1/31) and the University of Mobile (2/2).

LSUS will then travel to Jackson, Mississippi for another game with Belhaven (2/7) before returning home to face Loyola (2/9).  The Lady Pilots will also make their second trip to New Orleans February 14-16 to play Xavier (2/14) and Dillard (2/16).

After the New Orleans trip, the Lady Pilots will come back home to “The Dock” for games against SUNO (2/21) and Spring Hill (2/23).  The Spring Hill contest will be the last regular season home game for the Lady Pilots.  LSUS will finish out the regular season on the road with two games versus Tougaloo (2/28) and William Carey (3/1).

Gulf Coast Athletic Conference tournament play begins on March 6.
