Women's Basketball: Lady Pilots rally to defeat Wayland Baptist

November 10, 2012

WAXAHACHIE, Tex. - The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots dug themselves an early hole but rallied in the second half to defeat Wayland Baptist University 54-50 on Friday night on the campus of Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

The first half of play was not kind to the Lady Pilots as they committed 12 turnovers and shot 33 percent from the field which led to a 10-point deficit at the half, 28-18. LSUS (1-0) turned things around sinking five of nine from downtown in the second half to come roaring back outscoring WBU (1-2) by 14 in the second half.

Sharde Henry led the way for the Lady Pilots going seven of 10 from the field including three of four from long range and was a perfect two for two from the charity stripe. Christy Willis was the only other Lady Pilots to reach double digit points scoring 17 while going five of 10 from the field and three of eight from downtown and four for four from the line.

LSUS finished the contest making 42 percent from beyond the arc and 66 percent from the free-throw line while making 42 percent from the field.

WBU shot the ball well in the first half, 45 percent, and forced some Lady Pilot turnovers to build the lead at the break. LSUS toughened up their defense in the second half to nurse the come-from-behind victory as they did not allow a bucket from downtown in the second half after surrendering four in 11 attempts by WBU in the first half of play.

The Lady Pilots will play Dallas Christian tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. in Waxahachie.
