Women's Basketball: Lady Pilots crush UT-Tyler
November 16, 2012
SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport Lady Pilots stormed past the UT-Tyler Patriots on Friday night at The Dock 71-53 in their home opener as Christy Willis tossed in 23 points as the Lady Pilots remain unbeaten.
LSUS (3-0) had a tough time getting going thanks to the quick UT-Tyler defense who played a full-court press the entire game which led to a double dozen (24) in the turnover department that led to 19 points for the visitors.
Thankfully for the Lady Pilots the Patriots shot just 33-percent from the floor and only made five of 18 from downtown.
The other bright spot for the visitors was Taylor Seals' 20 points but was the only Patriot scorer in double figures. The LSUS defense forced 15 turnovers themselves on a night where the Lady Pilots collect plenty more rebounds than their opponent 46-25.
Sharde Henry tossed in 18 points while leading the Lady Pilots with four steals. Jenna Diakos turned in a quiet double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds as she helped the Lady Pilots win the battle in the paint 26-18. Meoshi Bradley (5) and Henry (3) were at the top for LSUS in assists. LSUS shot 50-percent for the game including six of 12 from beyond the arc led by Willis who drained four of seven.
The free-throw line was not much of a factor in the second half after a 10 for 13 performance in the first half. The Lady Pilots were just one of two from the charity stripe in the second half while UT-Tyler made 10 of 17 for the game.
The next game for the Lady Pilots will be on Monday, November 19, in New Orleans at Xavier University at 6 p.m. Their next game at The Dock is Saturday, December 1, against the defending RRAC Champs; Langston University at 2 p.m.
