Wolfpack hold on for 58-50 win over Lady Pilots
February 23, 2006
Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Lady Pilots (13-10, 4-7) were held to just 13 first half points by the Loyola University Wolfpack (7-4) and trailed 28-13 at the break. LSUS responded by cutting the lead to as little as seven points in the second half, but the first half deficit proved to be too much as the Wolfpack downed the Lady Pilots by a final score of 58-50.
LSUS connected on 15-of-30 field goal attempts in the second half and outscored the Wolfpack 37-30, but the difference proved to be a 2-of-11 shooting performance from beyond the arc in the losing effort.
The Wolfpack’s Dani Holland poured in 13 first half points and continued to tear up the Lady Pilot defense in the second half adding 15 more for a career high 28 points. Holland’s offensive performance was highlighted by a 5-of-8 shooting display from beyond the three-point line and a 7-of-7 effort from the free-throw line. Holland also collected 10 rebounds recording the games only double-double. Teammate Kiely Schork added 12 points and four assists while Marjorie Bilinski added eight points and six rebounds.
The Lady Pilots honored their lone senior, Marcia Spyhalski, Thursday night as she played in what proved to be her last home game at The Dock as LSUS was eliminated from any hopes of hosting the first round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. Spyhalski continued to lead the Lady Pilots on the defensive end of the floor picking up seven rebounds and collecting a game high four steals. Jessica Kelly led the Lady Pilots offense with 16 points and a team high nine rebounds while teammate Moche Roque added 13 points.
LSUS has one remaining regular season contest Saturday night against the first place William Carey College Lady Saders before the first round of the GCAC Tournament begins next Tuesday.
