Wentz earns LSWA Player of the Week honors

March 28, 2011

NATCHITOCHES, La. - LSU Shreveport right fielder Chase Wentz has been named this week's Louisiana Sports Writers Association Baseball Player of the Week.

Wentz, a senior right fielder from Sarepta and Glenbook High School, hit .500 for the week in helping the Pilots go 3-0 on the slate after a weekend sweep over Huston-Tillotson.  He hit two home runs and knocked in nine runs while scoring seven times, had a triple, and walked once.  He slugged 1.167 and had a .500 on-base percentage.

The LSWA players of the week are voted on by a panel of state sportswriters while the players are nominated by their respective school sports information directors.

Wentz and the Pilots will play on Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Bringhurst Field in Alexandria, La., against the Louisiana College Wildcats for the annual DARE-Day game. The Pilots defeated the Wildcats 11-3 earlier this year in the game played at Pilot Field.
