Men's Final: OLLU -vs- LSU Shreveport
The nightcap is a clash of the same schools in #1 seed Our Lady of the Lake (26-6) and #2 LSU Shreveport (24-7). The Saints are ranked #7 in the most recent NAIA Coaches Poll; LSUS is #14.
This will be the rubber match as the teams split two regular season confrontations. The home team won each game; the Halos in San Antonio by a 112-94 score, while LSUS got the equalizer at The Dock, 83-74.
The series is tied at 3-3. OLLU became a nemesis to the Pilots' after their first two encounters. Three years ago they administered the Pilots' first defeat of the season after nine straight wins. The following campaign the Pilots were charging along at 16-0 before the Saints sunk them again.
OLLU got to the championship by beating Jarvis Christian College (9-21), 108-98, then outlasting Southwestern Assemblies of God University (23-9), 112-109.
The nation's highest scoring (99.7 ppg) team is 16-0 when they eclipse the century mark.
LSUS enters the game having won six straight conference tournament crowns; last year's RRAC and their last five in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. The Aquatic Navigators know something about finding north on a compass.
They eliminated Texas College (17-14), 75-72, in dramatic fashion, winning on a buzzer-beating triple. On Saturday they staved off a maddening Texas Wesleyan (25-7) comeback, 84-77.
Both teams have punched their ticket for Kansas City, site of the NAIA's 75th national tournament.
Awards Announced Tonight
The RRAC will announce their 2011-2012 All-Conference teams during tonight's games. Following each final, during the net-cutting ceremonies, the All-Tournament team will also be unveiled in a vote of conference Sports Information Directors.
