February 12, 2007
Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Lady Pilots (11-13, 7-8) led by as many as 20 points in the second half against the Loyola University Wolfpack (18-8, 12-2), but could not hold on as LU stole a 62-60 victory Monday night at The Dock.
The Lady Pilots led 37-23 at the break and stretched their lead to 20 points after an Edie Leonards pass set up Janai Sells for an open lay-up at the 17:25 mark of the second half put the Lady Pilots ahead 45-25.
A Trenese Smith three pointer just 12 seconds later however sparked a 27-7 run by the Wolfpack who held the Lady Pilots to just seven points over the next 14:00.
A sells field goal put the Lady Pilots ahead 60-57 in the final minute, but Kiely Schork drilled a three point attempt with 49 seconds remaining to tie the score at 60-60.
On the Lady Pilots ensuing possession, LU forced a turnover which led to a fast break lay-up by Dani Holland giving LU a 62-60 lead with just four seconds remaining.
The Lady Pilots were fouled on the inbounds play which stopped the clock at two seconds, but were unable to get to the line as it was just the Wolfpack’s sixth foul of the period.
LSUS was unable to get a shot off at the buzzer and dropped a disappointing decision to the Wolfpack who were credited with their 10th consecutive victory.
LU made up for shooting just 32% from the floor and being outrebounded by the Lady Pilots by outscoring LSUS 12-1 from the free throw line in the second half.
Schork finished with a team high 19 points while Smith added 12 points and five rebounds.
Despite just six second half turnovers, the Lady Pilots managed to get to the free throw line just twice in the second half which proved to be the difference. Leonards finished with a team high 18 points and eight rebounds while Kacie Cryer added 11 points.
The Lady Pilots will return to action Thursday night when they will play host to Xavier University. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
