Three goal second half too much for Pilots to overcome

October 01, 2011
SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport Pilots men's soccer team lost Saturday's Red River Athletic Conference match to the University of Saint Thomas Celts by a final score of 4-2 at The Swamp as they surrendered three second half goals to the Celts.

LSUS (2-7, 1-3 RRAC) got on the board first has they put some pressure on the Celts keeper with a shot from Nick Flowers that was saved by Jason Taffet but he allowed a rebound that was followed up by the Pilots' Brian McKay for his first goal of the season during the 39th minute.

The next three goals scored in the contest would be by St. Thomas (2-5-1, 2-2 RRAC). Jeuel Ventura found the back of the net during the 40th minute to tie the game at one at the half. Just two minutes into the second half the Celts took the lead as Delano Foster found the back of the net during the 47th minute.

The Celts third consecutive goal came off the boot of Rafael Bustos to give the Celts a two-goal cushion during the 70th minute for a 3-1 advantage. The Pilots were down but not out yet as Eduardo Hernandez's free kick found the head of Nick Flowers to cut the Celts' lead down to 3-2 during the 71st minute but the visitors would put the game away with a goal from Omar Alonso during the 80th minute.

St. Thomas outshot the Pilots 14-11 with nine shots on goal while LSUS had seven on frame. Both keepers, Lance Quini (LSUS) and Taffet (StT) were busy as they each saved five. The Celts took the edge on corner kicks 7-3.

The next match for the Pilots will be on Thursday, October 6th, against the University of Southwest Mustangs at 3 p.m. at The Swamp.
