Texas Wesleyan Sweeps No. 5 LSUS

March 31, 2009

Shreveport, La. - The Texas Wesleyan Rams upset No. 5 LSUS with a pair of victories over the Pilots in a non-conference doubleheader at Pilot Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Blake Walker went 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs to lift the visitors to a 7-4 victory in game one.

Freshman Kory Kottenbrook suffered his first loss of the season on the mound, allowing six runs over just four innings pitched. He had not allowed a single run over the first 9.2 innings pitched of his career prior to today's contest.

Stephen Hobbins, Brent Lavallee and Quinton Shamsabady each had two hits to lead the Pilots, but LSUS left 11 runners stranded on base and squandered several scoring opportunities in the contest.

In game two, Mikey Horn launched a three-run homer in the top of the ninth as the Rams knocked off the Pilots for the second time on the day, 9-6.

Andrew Brouillette did his best to help the Pilots stay in the contest early, as he hit two, two-run home runs in the first and second innings to keep the Pilots within striking distance of the Rams.  With his four RBIs, Brouillette passed Gary Moreas and became the school's all-time single-season RBI leader with 71.

Trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth, LSUS tied the game on two-run double by Shamsabady.  However, that was the last hit of the game for the home team, as LSUS was held hitless over the final four innings by Texas Wesleyan reliever Matt Chutchian.

Chutchian picked up the win for the Rams, throwing 4.1 innings without allowing a single hit.

LSUS (30-7) has now lost three games in-a-row for the first time this season, and they will look to end that streak when they face the William Carey Crusaders in a pivotal GCAC weekend series on Friday and Saturday in Mobile.
