Texas College takes final game of series

March 10, 2012

SHREVEPORT, La. - Texas College's Aldo Montoya pitched his first complete game of the season as the Steers defeated the LSU Shreveport Pilots 3-2 in the final game of the series at Pilot Field on Saturday afternoon.

LSUS (19-3, 8-3 RRAC) could not muster enough offense on Saturday to solve the puzzle of the Texas College right hander who retired the final seven batters of the game. The Pilots scattered eight hits over the course of nine innings and could not get the big hit stranding eight runners including leaving the bases loaded twice in back to back innings.

The only run-producing offense the Pilots got was a two-run homer from Stephen Hobbins off the fair-pole down the left field line to cut the Texas College lead to one 3-2 but the Pilots couldn't do any further damage only getting one base runner the rest of the way.

Texas College (11-15-1, 4-6-1 RRAC) scored two runs in the third inning and got another in the fifth inning which was enough on the overcast day at Pilot Field.

Montoya (2-3) tossed the full nine innings allowing eight hits walking only one and striking out three. Logan Norris (2-1) suffered the loss for the Pilots allowing the two runs in the third which was his final inning. He walked only one batter and struck out five in three innings of work. The Pilots used a platoon of pitchers the rest of the way with Jake Kight retiring the final six batters of the game for TC in two innings of work.

The Pilots only had a pair of hitters have a multi-hit game as Greg Friesen was two for two with an intentional walk and Manny Estrada was three for four. The Steers' Kasey Vogel was their only hitter with two hits going two for four with a RBI.

The next game for the Pilots will be on Tuesday, March 13, at 6:00 against Southern Arkansas University at Pilot Field.
