Smith, McNew Named GCAC Players of the Week

Shreveport, La.- LSUS freshman Caitlin Smith and sophomore Kelsi McNew were named as the GCAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for the week of Sept. 17-23, as announced today by the league office. This is the first player of the week honor for Smith, while McNew picked up the honor in 2006.
A 5'7 native of San Antonio, Texas, Smith scored 2 goals and added 2 assists in the Lady Pilots' 8-0 victory over NCAA Division 1 Alcorn State last week. Smith also scored one of LSUS' two goals in Saturday's 2-0 conference win over Mobile. Smith is currently second on the team in points (14) and goals scored (5).
McNew, a 5'8 goalkeeper from Flower Mound, Texas, notched four saves in the two LSUS victories last week. McNew did not allow a single goal in either game, recording her fourth and fifth shutout on the season. McNew has 48 saves on the season and is the LSUS career leader in saves with 131.
With the two wins last week, LSUS moved to 7-3 on the season and 2-0 in GCAC play.
