Queens top Lady Pilots 66-56
December 29, 2006
PLAINVIEW, TX---Sophomore guard Edite Kresa scored a career-high 22 points and sophomore forward Miranda Damiano recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds to help lead the Wayland Baptist Flying Queens to a 66-56 victory over Louisiana State University-Shreveport. It was the final contest of 2006 for the WBU women, 9-4 on the season, and the last game before Sooner Athletic Conference action begins next week.
Kresa, who hit five-of-nine shots from behind the three-point line and was a perfect three-of-three from the charity stripe, gave Wayland its first lead of the game with a three-pointer to make the score 5-4. The Queens never trailed after that, extending a six point half-time lead to 12 points with 12:04 remaining in the game. LSU-Shreveport kept it close though, eventually pulling to within two, 58-56, with 1:54 left on a layup by Quan Joseph.
Kresa hit two free throws on the Queen’s next possession, and then Damiano took over, scoring the final six points of the game to give the Queens their ninth win of the season, matching their total from all of 2005-06.
Brittany Spradling, a sophomore from Happy, also scored in double figures with 11 points. The Lady Pilots were led by Janai Sells with 23 points and Jessica Kelly with 12. LSU-Shreveport, who beat the Queens 58-51 last month in Shreveport, is 4-4 on the season.
