Porter's Buzzer-Beater Lifts LSUS to Victory Over Texas College

November 09, 2007

TYLER, Texas – Josh Porter’s 3-pointer as time expired lifted LSUS to a 100-97 win over Texas College on Thursday night.

With five seconds remaining, senior J’Quincy Jones’ shot from the baseline bounced off the back of the rim. A Texas College player tried to clear the ball away from the basket, hoping by swatting it toward midcourt time would expire.

However, the ball landed in Porter’s hands about five feet from the top of the key and he buried the game-winning shot as the buzzer sounded to send the Pilots into a wild celebration on Texas College’s home court.

Porter led LSUS with a 26 point, 13 rebound performance.

Senior Jamon Morris scored 17 points and added 9 rebounds for the Pilots, while starters Jared Stevenson (16), Travis Cash (16) and Jones (12) also finished in double-figures.

Texas College’s Czyz Bennett led all scorers with 35 points on 10 of 20 shooting and 12 of 13 from the charity stripe.

The Pilots outrebounded their opponent for the fifth consecutive game, holding a 46-35 advantage on the boards, including 16 offensive rebounds.

The Pilots (3-0) will be back in action on Monday, taking on Jarvis Christian College in the home opener at “The Dock” on the LSUS campus.

The LSUS women’s team will open up the double-header with a 5:30 start time, and the men’s game will tip-off at 7:30.
