Pilots win pitchers duel 2-1 over Wolfpack

Shreveport, LA---It was a pitching dual all the way on Friday night for the LSUS Pilots against the Loyola Wildcats. However, the Pilots’ James Thomas came out on top with the win, 2-1, and Kevin Jewell (4) picked up the save completing a scoreless ninth inning.
Frank Kowatz started on the mound for LSUS and went three strong innings, giving up one run off three hits. At the end of three innings, the score was tied 1-1 once Pilot left fielder Riley Cook scored on Dusty Maddox’s RBI ground out to second base.
Thomas (2-0) came on in relief in the fourth inning and threw three hitless innings. The Pilots Dustin Bissonnette led off the sixth inning with a triple to right-center field and scored on a line drive ground ball to second base which proved to be the winning run.
For LSUS, Bissonnette went 2-4 with a triple and a single; Brandon Magierowski went 1-3 with a single and made a great play in the third inning; and Jeremy Chabot went 1-2 with a single.
David Sudyka finished the night 2-3 with a triple and Greg Veltri finished 1-5 and scored the Wolfpacks lone run in the third inning.
The two teams will face each other again in a double header on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
