May 07, 2008
Cleveland, Tenn. - The LSUS Pilots scored two runs in the top of the tenth and held on for a 7-5 victory over the No. 2 seed Mobile Rams on Wednesday night in second round action of the Region XIII Tournament.
Blake Pinkston picked up the win on the mound after pitching two scoreless innings in relief.
LSUS jumped out to an early four run lead in the top of the first, but the Rams responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Pilots lead to just one run.
The Pilots scored another run in the sixth and held a 5-3 advantage until the bottom of the eighth when Mobile scored two runs to tie the game at 5-5.
Pinkston got out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings, and the Pilots scored two runs on a wild pitch and four-pitch walk by Mobile reliever Scott Mitchell in the first extra frame.
LSUS out-hit the Rams 11-7. Andrew Blubaugh stroked three hits, including a double, and scored two runs to pace the LSUS attack. Lead-off hitter Quinton Shamsabady socked the only home run of the game, while designated hitter Jeff Ledet added a double and a single. Andrew Brouillette also finished the night with a pair of hits and two RBIs.
LSUS is the only undefeated team left remaining in the regional and will face the winner of the Lee University-University of Mobile game tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m.
