SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport Pilots played with intensity on Monday afternoon at The Swamp and held on to the Mayor's Cup for another year with a 2-0 win over the Centenary Gents.

LSUS (1-1) netted their first goal of the game during the 42nd minute of the first half as Brian McKay took advantage of a slow-to-get-up Centenary keeper who had collided with other players as they were going for the loose ball. McKay cleaned it up and placed it in the back of the net for the lead just before the half.

The Pilots added their final goal just two and a half minutes into the second half as Ruben Mendoza sailed the corner kick toward the box as it was flicked on by Benito Garcia and then headed in by William Awagu to add some much needed cushion for a 2-0 lead.

Centenary (0-0) played hard as well but could not manage to find the frame often enough taking a total of 14 shots with only two on-goal that was scooped up by LSUS' keeper, Lance Quini. The shot totals were even at the half at seven a piece but the Pilots stayed aggressive in the second half to come out on top 17-14 in total shots while six of them were on goal.

LSUS took the lead late in the first half when Brian McKay netted the Pilots first goal of the season for the 1-0 advantage. The shots were even at the half with both team taking 7 shots but the Pilots had the most on-goal edging Centenary 3-1.

The Pilots will now travel to Longview, Texas on Friday to take on LeTourneau at 7 p.m. Their next game at the Swamp will be Saturday, September 8, at 4:00 p.m. against Faulkner University.
