Pilots Win Big Over Generals

Shreveport, La. - The LSUS Pilots (11-4, 8-2) used a huge second inning and another dominant pitching performance by Victor Hernandez to pick up a 19-4 non-conference victory over the LSU-Alexandria Generals (5-6) on Friday night at Pilot Field.
Hernandez (5-1) earned his team-leading fifth win on the mound this season, going five innings and giving up just three runs on six hits, while striking out four Generals and walking just two.
Following a scoreless first inning, Craig Barnes led off the bottom of the second with a double and would later score on a bases loaded single by Ricky Sanders for the first Pilot run of the game.
The Pilots opened up the flood gates, as they sent 17 batters to the plate in the second, scoring 12 runs on 10 hits. Josh Todd tripled and singled in the inning, driving in four of the Pilots runs, while Barnes also added a bases loaded triple in his second plate appearance of the inning.
Sanders, Barnes and Todd each had two hits in the 12-run second inning for the Pilots.
LSUS added three more runs in the bottom half of the third inning on just two hits. Andrew Brouillete had an RBI double and scored in inning, as the Pilots took a 15-0 lead after three.
The Generals picked up their first run of the ballgame in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Wes Hotard, his first of the season.
The Pilots answered back with one run in the bottom of the fourth, as David Bradley scored on a RBI double by pinch hitter Jeff Ledet.
After the Generals scored two more runs in the top of the fifth, LSUS had three more runners cross the plate in the bottom of the inning, extending their lead to 19-3 after five innings.
Barnes finished the game 2-for-2 with a double, triple and three RBIs, while Todd added two hits, including a double and a game-high four RBIs in the win. Jeffrey Garidel and Sanders also ended the night with two hits apiece, as they Pilots finished with 15 hits.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader that begins at 1:00 PM.
