Pilots walk away with 19-6 win over Yellow Jackets

Longview, TX---The LSUS Pilots (28-14) traveled to Longview, TX Tuesday afternoon looking to avenge an early season loss at the hands of the LeTourneau University Yellow Jackets (10-18). The Yellow Jackets pitching struggled early walking eight LSUS hitters in the top of the 1st inning, leading to an 8-0 Pilot lead. Jacob Watkins delivered a three-run homerun and Steffan Primeaux added a season high four hits as the Pilots went on to win by a final score of 19-6.
Brian Dawson walked the bases loaded in the first which was followed by a Colin Moro RBI single for an early 1-0 LSUS lead. The Pilots would score seven more runs in the inning on just two hits, with the other being an RBI single by Scott Talley to take an 8-0 lead.
Pilots starter Daniel Welch (4-0) scattered four hits and allowed four runs (three earned) in 5.0 innings of work. The combination of Josh Wheat, Louis Roberts, and Chris Marks held the Yellow Jackets to just three hits and two runs through the final four frames.
The LSUS offense tallied 16 hits in the ballgame which included a 4-5 performance by Primeaux. Dusty Maddox added two ground-rule doubles after being hit by a pitch in his first two at bats, while catcher Scott Talley finished 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Quenton Shamsabody blasted his first career college homerun in the 6th which stretched the Pilots lead to 15-3. Watkins added his 4th homerun of the season in the 7th with a three-run shot off the scoreboard in right field to cap off the Pilots season high 19 run outburst.
The Pilots will return to action again Friday night when they will travel to Hattiesburg, MS to take on the William Carey College Crusaders in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action. First pitch is slated for 6:00pm.
