Pilots to play for 7th straight tournament title

WAXAHACHIE, Tex. - The no. 14 LSU Shreveport Pilots men's basketball team advances to the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament Championship Game with an 84-77 win over the no. 20 Texas Wesleyan Rams on Saturday afternoon at the Schaefer Center on the campus of Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

LSUS (24-7) controlled the game as they held a double digit lead for the majority of the contest. Greg Shyne got the scoring started a three-pointer on his way to lead the team with 25 points. Five of the seven that played in the game for the Pilots reached the double figure plateau.

Isiah Bazille tossed in 17 points, two shy of his season-high of 19 points while Cody Walker, Derrick Parker, and Mark Politte all adding 11 points each.

The Pilots blazed the nets in the Schaefer Center draining 61% from the field including 50% from downtown with Shyne leading the way making three of four. LSUS shot 75% from the free-throw line making 21 of 28 with Bazile making all five of his attempts.

Texas Wesleyan (25-7) finished with three in double figures as Oscar Griffin led all scorers with 27 points while Eric Frederick tossed in 25 and Stephane Mudiay 12. The Rams shot 40% in their elimination game with the Pilots.

LSUS will advance to a game in which they have not lost since 2005, the conference tournament championship game. The Pilots have won the last six conference tournaments. LSUS will play on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of SAGU and OLLU both teams of which the Pilots have beaten this year.
