Pilots Tame Wildcats
April 14, 2008
Alexandria, La. – The LSUS Pilots (35-12) won their ninth consecutive game of the season on Monday afternoon, defeating the Louisiana College Wildcats, 11-9, at Bringhurst Field.
The Pilots opened up the contest with three runs in the top of the first inning on three hits, including a two-run single by Andrew Brouillette.
After scoring single runs in the third and fourth innings, LSUS took control of the game with three more runs in the fifth. Jeff Ledet tripled in a run and scored, as the Pilots extended their lead to 8-0.
LSUS seemingly had things in hand with a 9-0 lead after 7 ½ innings of play; however, three defensive errors in the bottom of the eighth led to six Wildcat runs in the inning.
With the lead trimmed to just three, Jacob Watkins and David Bradley provided the Pilots with a little breathing room as each homered in the top of the ninth to stretch the Pilot lead back to five runs.
LC added three runs in the bottom of the ninth, but it was not enough as the Pilots held on for an 11-9 victory.
Brouillette finished the afternoon with a 2-for-2 performance, walking twice and driving in two runs for the Pilots. Brouillette has now reached base in nine straight plate appearances.
Ledet, who leads the team in batting average, continued his hot bat at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the victory.
Quenton Shamsabady and Bradley each had two hits, as the Pilots finished with 13 hits on the afternoon.
Justin Ennis (4-3) was credited with the win, allowing just one hit and striking out four Wildcats in just three innings pitched.
LSUS will be back in action on Friday night when they host GCAC rival William Carey University in the first game of a three-game weekend series at Pilot Field. Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
