Pilots take down Wiley

January 26, 2012
SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport Pilots men's basketball team won their fourth consecutive game at Thursday night at The Dock as the abundant crowd cheered their home team on to a 67-56 win over the Wiley College Wildcats in Red River Athletic Conference play.

LSUS (12-6, 10-3 RRAC) will remain in the top three in the conference regular season standings after the win over a very tough Wiley squad. The crowd sent electrifying cheers to the rafters early in the contest when Isiah Bazile missed a rare three-point attempt as Greg Shyne grabbed the rebound and slammed it home before returning to the floor.

Greg Shyne led the Pilots in scoring once again after a five of 10 performance from the field and six of seven from the charity stripe to finish with 16 points while Derrick Parker tossed in 14. Aubin Young hit some amazing shots throughout the contest to finish with 13 points while Mark Politte chipped in with 10 off the bench.

Parker and Shyne led the Pilots on the boards each grabbing eight rebounds while Rydell Harris snagged six. Young and Bazile each pulled down five.

The Pilots led by as much as 16 in the first half as they took a 14-point lead into the locker room at the break. LSUS shot 54% from the field next to Wiley's 35% who made just two in 11 tries from beyond the arc.

The second half saw the Wildcats (11-6, 7-5 RRAC) make a few more from downtown but also miss more as they made five in 17 attempts as they tried to use the three-point line to overtake the Pilots. They managed to trim the Pilot's lead down to single digits a few times in the second half but only got as close as seven as they outscored the home team 30-27 in the second half.

The contest was fairly even throughout other than the final score as both teams turned the ball over 14 times, the Pilots did just three times in the second half after a rough first half with 11. The Pilots' defense came away with seven steals while the visitors stole six and cleaned the glass for 42 boards thanks to 22 offensive rebounds while the Pilots grabbed 41 total.

The Pilots will now travel to Fort Worth to take on the Texas Wesleyan Rams on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 4:00 p.m. Texas Wesleyan needed triple overtime to defeat the Pilots 79-73 in the first meeting of the year. The next game at The Dock will be on Monday, Jan. 30, at 7:30 p.m. as the Pilots welcome the conference-leading Our Lady of the Lake Saints.
