PINEVILLE, La. - LSU Shreveport newcomer Nikkel Collymore scored the game-winning goal on Thursday night to lift the Pilots past the Louisiana College Wildcats 2-1 at Wildcat Stadium in their final tune-up before RRAC play begins next week.
Collymore headed in the game-winner as Ruben Mendoza was credited with the assist off a free-kick during the 74th minute in a game that appeared that it was going to be a scoreless second half.
Both teams played a tough physical game with a total of 42 fouls called but in the end the Pilots came out on top. The shots favored the home team 13-12.
LSUS (4-2) will head into RRAC play next week on a winning note against the defending champion.
It did not take the Pilots long to get on the board as Jose Cordova netted the first goal of the game 19 seconds into the match with an assist from Sam Weinberg for the extremely early 1-0 lead. The Wildcats (3-2) battled their way back to tie the game at 1 during the 32nd minute taking advantage with a free kick from James Cox. The shots were slightly in favor of LC 8-7 at the half.
The Pilots will now begin RRAC play on the road next week on Thursday in Austin against Huston-Tillotson and Friday at SAGU in Waxahachie, Texas.
