Pilots take 2 of 3 on road versus Belhaven

Jackson, MS---The LSUS Pilots (26-10, 14-4) traveled to Jackson, MS this weekend for a three game series versus the Belhaven College Blazers. Frank Kowatz pitched a career high 8.2 innings allowing 1 run (unearned) while scattering 6 Blazers hits and 2 walks to improve to 4-1 on the season as the Pilots went on to win by a final score of 2-1.

In game one of the double-header on Saturday the Pilots offense exploded for 8 runs in the top of the 7th inning on route to a 13-1 victory. Derek Cunningham improved to 5-1 on the season throwing a complete game while only allowing one run on five hits and five walks while striking out five. Chris Frye was 3-5 at the plate while Kyle Mace picked up two hits and 3 RBI to lead the Pilots offense.

The Blazers jumped on the Pilots in game three scoring three runs in the top of the first inning off Pilot starter Luis Roberts (0-1). Jared White managed to keep the Pilot offense in check allowing only 2 runs to avoid the series sweep as the Blazers took game three by a final score of 7-2.

The Pilots remain on top of the GCAC standings at 14-4, currently 1.5 games ahead of the University of Mobile Rams. The Pilots will travel to Pineville, LA Tuesday afternoon to take on the Louisiana College Wildcats.
