Pilots take 2 of 3 games from Missouri Valley College in triple-header

The LSUS Pilots (3-1) squared off against the 31st ranked Missouri Valley College Vikings Sunday in triple-header action. Senior pitcher Gene Stevens picked up right where he left off the 2003 season as he pitched a complete game, giving up only one run on 5 hits and fanned 4 Vikings hitters. The Pilots won game one by a final score of 2-1, making Stevens 1-0 on the year.
A two-run homerun by Pilot senior Thomas McMannis in the bottom of the first ended up being the game winning homer. McMannis finished the game hitting 1-2 with 2 RBI’s and a run scored.
Sam Alphonse, a junior pitcher from Fordocag, La took the mound for his Pilot debut in game 2. The Pilots went on to win by a score of 5-3. Alphonse (1-0) threw 6 innings, giving up only one earned run on two hits, 4 strike outs, and three walks.
Kyle Mace supplied the offence for the Pilots with a three run homerun in the 2nd inning over the right field wall. Mace finished 1-3 with 4 RBI’s in the Pilot victory. Jeremy Chabot was 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
After dropping the first two games, the Vikings scored in the first inning of game three off Pilot pitcher Jeremy Chabot (0-1) and went on to hand the Pilots their first loss of the season by a score of 7-2. Pilot freshman Jeff Ledet was 2-2 with 2 stolen bases and scored the Pilots only two runs. Vikings catcher Kevin Lundberg was 4-4 with 4 singles and an RBI to put Missouri Valley’s record at 2-2 on the year.
LSUS will be in action again Tuesday afternoon in Magnolia, Ak when they will take on the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders. LSUS will begin their Gulf Coast Athletic Conference season next Friday at home when they will host the Springhill College Badgers in a 3 game series. Game one is scheduled to begin at 6:30pm Friday night.
