Pilots Sweep Badgers

Mobile, Ala. - LSUS (5-0, 5-0 GCAC) swept a doubleheader from Spring Hill College with wins of 6-4 and 10-4 on Saturday afternoon.
In the first game, LSUS held a 2-0 lead in the third inning when Spring Hill freshman third baseman Brad Holstein tied the game with his first collegiate homer.
In the bottom of the fourth, however, LSUS answered when SHC starting pitcher Taylor Chadick (1-1) allowed second baseman Jacob Watkins to score from third off a wild pitch.
LSUS stretched their lead to 6-2 in the seventh with an RBI single by catcher Bryan Stebbings and a run-scoring double by right fielder Ricky Sanders.
The Badgers mounted a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh and final inning as right fielder Ryan Hall drove in a run with an infield single followed by an RBI double by center fielder Justin Harrison.
However, LSUS starter Victor Hernandez (2-0) picked up the complete game victory when Badger catcher Tyler Moberg grounded out to the shortstop to end the game.
Hernandez allowed nine hits and four earned runs off two walks and just one strikeout. Chadick pitched 5.2 strong innings giving up six hits four earned runs, walking two and striking out three Pilots.
Sanders and Andrew Blubaugh had two hits apiece to lead the Pilots in game one.
In the second game, LSUS jumped out to an 8-0 lead after six innings before SHC answered with two runs in the sixth inning off a two RBI triple by left fielder Christian Rossi.
The Badgers added two more runs in the seventh, but LSUS added two insurance runs in the eighth.
On the mound, Blake Pinkston (1-0) picked up his first win of the year, while Michael Bouché (0-1) took the loss.
The Pilots will travel to Houston on Tuesday for a doubleheader with Houston Baptist University.
