Pilots suffer 5-2 loss at the hands of Louisiana College
March 16, 2004
LSUS (14-9) played host to the Louisiana College Wildcats (14-7) Tuesday night at Pilot Field. The Pilots continued to struggle through the first inning of a ball game as the Wildcats jumped on Pilot starter Levi Montoya (2-1) for two runs in the first inning and tacked on a single run in the second. Montoya was relieved with 2 outs in the second by freshman Wesley Cromer. Montoya suffered the loss in his 1.2 innings of work giving up 3 runs on 4 hits and 1 walk.
Wildcat starter Jake Summer (2-0) collected 3 strikeouts in his three perfect innings to begin the ball game before being relieved by James Hall. Hall picked up the win with his two innings of work while giving up 1 run on 3 hits.
The Wildcats finally got something going off reliever Wesley Cromer in their half of the seventh. Louisiana College loaded the bases with two outs which brought Tyler Lewis out of the Pilot bullpen. Lewis walked the first hitter he faced to plate a run and then a ground ball which was misplayed by the Pilot infield allowed a second run to score to make the score 5-1 in favor of LC.
Pilots catcher Kyle Mace hit a 3-2 fastball over the right field wall in the bottom of the seveth, his second round tripper of the season to make the score 5-2. LSUS threatened in the bottom of the ninth as they had runners on first and second with no outs but Woodall ended the Pilots rally with his first save of the year.
Broussard was 3-5 with 2 runs and an RBI to lead the Wildcats to their 5-2 victory over the Pilots. Doughty was 3-4 on the night also with 2 runs scored and an RBI for LC.
LSUS will be in action again tomorrow night at Pilot Field where they will take on East Texas Baptist University. Game time is scheduled for 6:30pm.
