Pilots stomp HTU

AUSTIN, Tex. - The LSU Shreveport Pilots picked up their second straight win in the opening game of the Red River Athletic Conference with a convincing 73-55 win over the Huston-Tillotson Rams.

LSUS (3-3, 1-0 RRAC) had a dominating performance in the first half shooting 48% from the field including four of 10 from downtown and an impressive 13 of 14 from the free-throw line to take a commanding 41-26 lead at the half.

HTU (0-3, 0-1 RRAC) shot 36% from the field matching the Pilots from downtown with four mad three's in the first half but amazingly they did not shoot a single shot from the free-throw line.

The Pilots kept up the pace in the second half making 40% from the field. Their performances from downtown and the charity stripe was not quite as impressive as the first half but it was good enough to get the win as they made only one three-pointer in six attempts and only seven for 11 from the free-throw line.

LSUS finished at 43% from the field for the game and five of 16 from long range. They made 80% of their free-throws (20-25). All 25 shots came from five different players: Derrick Parker (3-5), Jake Greene (4-4), Greg Shyne (7-8), Isiah Bazile (5-6), and Chris Mitchell (1-2).

"We are very pleased with the victory. It's a great way to start conference play," siad LSUS head coach Chad McDowell.

Parker earned his 4th double-double of the season as he led all scorers with 25 points and also led all rebounders with 12, 10 of which were on the defensive side of the ball. In addition to the rebounds, Parker also rejected five shots to lead the team in blocks.

Shyne had 18 points and was equally as impressive on the defensive end with three blocks and three steals in 34 minutes of action while Greene nailed three from downtown to finish with 13 points in 27 minutes.

Bazile came close to a double-double but came up just short finishing with nine points and eight rebounds but he led the team in assists with five in 33 minutes.

The next contest for the Pilots will be on Wednesday in San Antonio against Our Lady of the Lake University at 7:30 p.m. The Pilots will play their first home game at The Dock this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against the Texas Wesleyan University Rams.
