Pilots Split With Carey in Saturday's Doubleheader

March 02, 2008

Hattiesburg, Miss. - LSUS(15-5, 10-3 GCAC) split Saturday’s doubleheader with William Carey University (16-7, 10-5 GCAC)  winning game one 7-3, and falling in game two 9-6 in eleven innings.

Trailing 3-2 in game one the LSUS offense chased Carey starter Josh Troxclair with a decisive fifth inning as they scored four runs to take command of the game. Carey would put together a final inning rally but Louis Rolon lined into a game ending double play to end the threat.

Cody Lott (4-0) remained perfect on the mound for the Pilots this season, while Andrew Brouillette and Ricky Sanders each added two hits in the Pilots victory.

In game two, Greg Alexander’s walk-off three run home run with one out in the eleventh inning helped William Carey avoid the series sweep. Carey held a 6-3 lead going into the ninth but could not hold as LSUS scored three runs to tie the game.

Carey reliever Kelly Ray was solid for the Crusaders in picking up the win. Ray entered the game in the ninth and worked a scoreless tenth and eleventh inning to set the stage for Alexander.

Freshman Gino Spratley was handed the loss after working 2.1 innings of relief.  Craig Barnes homered in the contest, while Robert Pharr was the only Pilot to register multiple hits in game 3.

LSUS will be back in action at home on Tuesday night when they face the Texas Wesleyan Rams at Pilot Field.
