Pilots spilt DH with Northwood

CEDAR HILL, Tex. - The no. 13 LSU Shreveport Pilots baseball team split Friday afternoon's double header against the Northwood University Knights at Knights Field. The Pilots dominated the first game 12-3 and NU took the final game 13-9.
The Pilots took control of the first game in the top of the second inning when Kevin Smith hit a grand slam over the 20-foot center field wall to extend the LSUS' lead to 6-1. The Pilots added a single run in the fourth and two more in the fifth thanks to a two-run double from Michael Diffie to extend the lead to 9-3.
Smith drove in another run in the sixth with a double and then the Pilots got back-to-back solo shots from Chase Wentz and Shawn Moy in the top of the seventh. Jared Mata (4-2) picked up the win for the Pilots while Kane Kimrey (3-2) suffered the loss for the Knights.
The second game appeared to be all Northwood as they scored nine runs in the second inning for a commanding 9-1 lead but the Pilots slowly chipped away and made it a contest with four runs in the top of the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate. The inning was highlighted by an RBI-double from Stephen Hobbins and a two-run single from Manny Estrada.
Cody Boutte (3-1) suffered the loss for the Pilots while Corey Sartor (3-1) earned the win for Northwood.
The final game of the series is tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. and the winner will have earned a two out of three series win and will be the current leader in the RRAC standings.
