Pilots Set to Begin Region XIII Tournament
May 05, 2008
Cleveland, Tenn. - The LSUS Pilots baseball team will begin their quest for another championship on Tuesday afternoon in first round action of the Region XIII Tournament versus Auburn University at Montgomery.
Six of the nation's top collegiate teams will gather at Olympic Field for the NAIA Region XIII Tournament beginning with the No. 2-seeded AUM Tigers taking on the No. 4-seeded Pilots in the first game of the day at 11:00 AM.
LSUS enters the tournament with a 44-14 overall record, their fifth 40-win season in the last six years and fourth in-a-row. The Pilots boast a .327 team batting average, while already scoring a school and GCAC-record 555 runs this season.
LSUS claimed its third straight GCAC Tournament championship last week, and the Pilots could very well be the hottest team coming into the region tournament. The Pilots have won 18 of their last 20 games, and are currently ranked No. 20 in the nation.
AUM finished the regular season ranked No. 16 in the NAIA, and enters this year's tournament as the No. 2 seed after knocking off the No. 3-ranked Lee Flames to win the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament last week.
AUM brings a record of 41-19, while hitting .319 at the plate and posting a 4.12 team ERA.
Following Tuesday's action, regional play will continue with three more games scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. The championship game is planned for Friday.
The six teams are vying for one bid to the NAIA Super Regional in Florida next week and hopefully a spot in the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, later this month.
