Pilots salvage split against Badgers

February 25, 2006

Mobile, AL---The LSUS Pilots dropped their Gulf Coast Athletic Conference season opener to the Spring Hill College Badgers Friday night 4-2. Badgers starting pitcher Josh Coleman went the distance scattering six hits and two Pilot runs.

The Pilots trailed 3-0 after the first inning of game two but evened the score at 3-3 in their half of the 6th.

The Badgers threatened in the bottom of the 7th with runners on second and third with two outs. Pilots second baseman Dustin Bissonnette made a spectacular play to his left and denied the Badgers a game winning single which sent the game to an extra frame.

The Pilots made the best of their second chance as Bissonnette led off the top of the 8th with a single and promptly scored after Tyler Williams tripled to center field. Williams scored one hitter later as Steffan Primeaux delivered a deep sacrifice fly to center field, giving the Pilots a 5-3 lead.

SHC scored one in their half of the 8th but could not complete the comeback as the Pilots held on for a 5-4 victory.

Game three of the series has been postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a four game series in Shreveport.
