Pilots Run Past Knights
February 21, 2008
Shreveport, La. – The No. 2 LSUS Pilots picked up their 25th win of the season, scoring a season-high 115 points and cruising to an easy 115-97 victory over Southern University of New Orleans on Thursday night at The Dock.
Travis Cash pumped in a career-high 34 points to pace the Pilots offense, while also grabbing 10 rebounds on his way to a double-double.
Josh Porter poured in 24 points of his own, as starters J’Quincy Jones and Jamon Morris also finished in double-figures with 18 and 11 points respectively. Morris also pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds in the contest, collecting his NAIA leading 17th double-double of the season.
LSUS led SUNO 51-37 at the half, and the game never got closer than 11 points from that point on. The offense picked up for both teams in the second half, as the Pilots outscored the Knights 64-60 over the last 20 minutes of action.
Both teams combined to put up 170 shot attempts in a game that was played at a very quick pace throughout the entire 40 minutes.
LSUS shot 54% (43-for-79) from the field, and connected on 8-of-14 (57%) from behind the three-point line in the win. The Knights were limited to just 37% shooting from the field on 34-of-91 attempts.
With the win, LSUS (25-1, 14-1) moves within one game of clinching at least a tie for the regular season Gulf Coast Athletic Conference championship. The Pilots will look to clinch at least a share of the title on Saturday afternoon when they host the Spring Hill College Badgers at 4:00 PM.
