Pilots Regain Swagger With 95-76 Victory Over William Carey
January 26, 2008
Shreveport, La. - The LSUS Pilots one-game losing streak didn't last very long, as the Pilots defeated the William Carey Crusaders in convincing fashion on Saturday afternoon, 95-76.
After suffering their first loss of the season on Wednesday night, the Pilots came out of the gate very sluggish, scoring just eight points over the first 7:30 of the contest.
Trailing 9-8, LSUS opened up the flood gates, as they went on a 29-10 run over the next 9 minutes to take a 37-19 lead and essentially control of the game.
LSUS’ run was sparked by four three-point baskets from Josh Porter, who finished the first half with 20 points and 5 rebounds.
The Pilots led 48-29 at the break, and were determined to extend their lead as they headed onto the floor for the second half. An 11-2 run to begin the second half helped the Pilots build up a 28-point lead with 17:30 remaining in the contest.
LSUS led by as many as 31 points at one point in the second half, and the William Carey Crusaders never threatened after that.
Porter finished with a game-high 34 points, while also pulling down 9 rebounds, tying him with teammate Jamon Morris for game-high honors. Morris ended the night with 12 points.
Senior Travis Cash continued his stellar play, pouring in 22 points and pulling down 6 rebounds in the Pilots victory.
LSUS (18-1, 7-1) will be back in action at The Dock on Thursday night, when they take on the Tougaloo Bulldogs. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
