Pilots pick up Seventh Straight Win

February 02, 2012
DALLAS, Tex. - Derrick Parker led the LSU Shreveport men's basketball team with his 15th double-double of the season with 19 points and 15 rebounds as his team defeated the Paul Quinn Tigers on Thursday night 65-52 for their seventh straight win. LSUS has now won 12 of their last 13 games.

LSUS (15-6, 13-3 RRAC) took a little time before the offense turned on the jets in the first half as PQC led by seven 15-8 with 10:32 to play in the half but then the offense started to click. The Pilots then went on a 14-0 run to take a 22-8 lead with 5:32 remaining in the first half as Mark Politte blazed the nets with a pair of three-pointers and free-throws with a total of eight points in the run.

The Pilots tacked on a 9-0 run before the end of the half for their largest lead of 13-points as Greg Shyne had seven of the run's points with 1:57 to go.

PQC (6-15, 5-10 RRAC) shot just 33% from the field in the first half and wasn't much better in the second half at 36% while the Pilots shot 44% in the first and 48% in the second half. LSUS increased their lead to their largest lead of the contest at 27-points with 5:46 to play following a Shyne two-point bucket.

Derrick Parker edged Shyne with the game-high 19 points while Shyne had 18 points. Politte rounded out the double figure scorers for the Pilots with 14 points. Aubin Young missed the double figures list by one finishing with nine points after a four of five from the field.

Both teams launched plenty from downtown as the Pilots made six of 21 from beyond the arc while the home team made five of 21.

The next game for the Pilots will be this Saturday in Muskogee, Oklahoma, for a 4 p.m. tip-off against the Bacone Warriors (3-17, 2-13 RRAC).  The Pilots blew out the Warriors at The Dock 104-69 earlier this season. Heading into Saturday's matchup in Oklahoma, the Warriors have lost three games in a row including 15 of their last 16.
