Pilots pick up much needed victory over Blue Devils
February 01, 2007
Shreveport, LA---The LSUS Pilots entered un-chartered waters heading into Thursday night’s contest against the Dillard University Blue Devils. LSUS had dropped three of the last four decisions and found themselves out of the Top 25 for the first time in two years. It looked as though the storm had cleared for the Pilots as they cruised to an 83-62 victory over DU, and they saw their starting point guard Freddy Hughes make a return to the floor in limited action after being sidelined the past three games due to injury.
LSUS jumped out to a 40-29 halftime lead and stretched their lead to as many as 27 points in the second half en route to an 83-62 home victory.
Four Pilots scorers notched double-digit scoring totals with Blake Whittle leading the way with a game high 22 points. Carlon Simmons finished with 17 points while teammate Kyile Byrd added 12. Jamon Morris added to his Gulf Coast Athletic Conference leading double-double tally after collecting13 points and 10 boards, marking his 11th of the year.
