Pilots over power Tigers with 117-76 victory

Hot Springs, AR---Seven members of the No. 7 ranked LSUS Pilots tallied double digit scoring totals en route to a 117-76 victory over the Champions Baptist College Tigers Saturday night to improve to 2-0 in the 2006-2007 season.

Pilots senior forward Blake Whittle collected his second double-double of the year with 20-points and 12-rebounds while adding six assists and a team high six steals in the Pilot victory.

“Blake is the kind of guy who is going to give his best effort every night, no matter where or when we play,” said Coach McDowell of Whittle.

Three other Pilots also collected double-doubles Saturday night; Greg Tyer collected a team high 17-rebounds and added 12-points and five assists; Chris Waffer collected a career high 15-points and 10-rebounds; and Jamon Morris finished with 11-points and 11-rebounds.

“We are starting to develop a very aggressive rebounding attitude on this team that is becoming very contagious. Every one is fighting for rebounds on both sides of the floor. Holding opponents to one shot opportunities on the defensive end while creating as many second and third chance points as we can offensively is going to be a big key to success this season,” commented McDowell about his Pilots who out rebounded the Tigers 72-42 which included 37 offensive rebounds.

Pilot point guard Freddy Hughes finished with 10-points and a game high seven assists while Kyile Byrd added nine points and eight rebounds.

The Pilots received a huge boost off the bench from Nick Garrett who poured in 20-points on 7-of-11 shooting and dished out eight assists. Carlon Simmons pitched in with 15-points while Ron Harris rounded off the Pilots attack with five points and eight rebounds.

LSUS will now prepare for their home opener against Wiley College Tuesday night at The Dock. Game time is scheduled for 7:30pm.
