Pilots Outlast Bulldogs for Fifth Straight Win

SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSU Shreveport Pilots could breathe easier once the buzzer sounded at the end of Thursday's tough 92-83 win over the Jarvis Christian College Bulldogs at The Dock as there was plenty of scoring as both teams shot over 40% from the field.The Pilots landed four scorers in double figures as the high-flying Greg Shyne led all scorers with 26 points after 17 in the opening half. Shyne had the basketball underneath the goal for an easy layup with less than three minutes to go and saw Derrick Parker on the way and held it for him as he passed off to him as D.P. slammed it home to energize the crowd as Parker turned in his 11th double-double of the season with 22 points and 12 rebounds. He has now had a double-double in all but two games this season.
Aubin Young was dominate on the floor in just 22 minutes of action as he came away with three steals and finished with 12 points. He came away with a steal at with 11 minutes to go and passed to Micah Jordan who sank the jumper to give the Pilots back a double-digit lead. Nearly two minutes later Mark Politte and Jacoby Marshall teamed up to come away with a steal and then it was passed to Young who took it to the basket for the lay in and a 17-point lead which was three points shy of their largest of the night.
Cody Walker had the ball knocked away with 8:36 to play but he hustled after it and got the ball to Young who hit the jumper to keep the LSUS lead at 16. Mark Politte made some noise off the bench as he tossed in 12 points including three of seven from the field as he helped the Pilots gain the double-digit lead in the second half.
The Pilots battled their way back after surrendering the game's first five points as Derrick Parker came away with a steal and a layup to cap off an 11-0 run to boost the Pilots early on as they took a 14-7 lead and never looked back although the visitors did not make it easy as they trimmed the once double-digit lead to eight at the break. The Pilots shot 50% from the floor while the visitors made 41% in the first half.
LSUS edged the visitors 47-42 on the boards as Parker led the charge and Politte pulled down seven. The second half had the Pilots by one as they shot 48% while the Bulldogs made 45%.
Jarvis (4-9, 3-6 RRAC) had an impressive six different shooter reach double figures; Maurese Jackson led the way with a double-double with 15 points and one less rebound while Carlton Dean had a baker's dozen. Cedrick Richardson and Trammaine Simmons each tossed in 12 points while Marcus O'Key finished with 11.
The next game for the Pilots will be at Texas College on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip and the next game at The Dock will be on Monday against SAGU at 7:30 p.m.
