Pilots offense erupts in 10-4 win over Rams
April 02, 2004
The LSUS Pilots entered Friday night’s game one game ahead of the University of Mobile Rams in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. The Pilots swept the Rams in their first three game series of the year at Mobile, and at Pilot Field Friday night, the Pilots took game one of the series 10-4.
Sam Alphonse took to the mound for his first start after being named the GCAC pitcher of the week last week and collected his 5th win of the season to put him at 5-1 on the year. Alphonse threw a complete game only allowing two earned runs on 8 hits, 1 walk, and collecting 7 strikeouts. The Rams managed to score one in the 8th and 2 in the ninth, but that just wasn’t enough as the Pilots offense erupted for 7 runs on 6 hits in the bottom of the fifth which chased Rams starter Kevin Price (5-2) from the mound. The Pilots are now responsible for Price’s only two losses on the year.
Chris Frye led the offensive charge for the Pilots going 3-4 including 3 RBI and a run scored. Wesley Gray finished 2-4 including a bases loaded double in the 5th inning to put LSUS out of reach. Dustin Bissonnette, Thomas McMannis, Jordy Bias, and Jeremie Chabot all pitched in with two hits in the Pilots 25th win of the season.
LSUS (25-14) and Mobile will be back at it again tomorrow at Pilot Field in double-header action which will begin at 1:00pm.
