Pilots Move to 2-0 in GCAC Play With Win Over Spring Hill

January 10, 2009

SHREVEPORT, La. – The LSUS Pilots moved to 2-0 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play with an 82-70 victory over the Spring Hill Badgers on Saturday night.

The Pilots fell behind 10-4 in the first three minutes of the contest, but LSUS responded with a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 13-10 lead.  Spring Hill retook the lead after back-to-back baskets put them ahead 14-13.  However, that would be their last lead of the contest as the Pilots opened things up with a 13-0 run that put them up 12 points late in the first half.

LSUS led by as many as 17 points in the opening stanza before Spring Hill managed to cut the Pilot lead down to 12 at the break.

Spring Hill trimmed the LSUS lead down to eight early in the second half, but they could never get any closer.  The Pilots extended their lead out to 19 points midway through the second half and cruised to an easy 12-point home win.

For the second straight game, seniors Tyrone Hamilton and Chris Gatlin led the LSUS attack with 21 and 17 points respectively.  Point guard Jared Stevenson scored 15 points, while freshman Derrick Parker added 12 points and 13 rebounds in the win.

LSUS outrebounded the visitors 48-36 for the game, which included 15 offensive rebounds that eventually led to 18 second-chance points for the Pilots.

Marcus Coleman paced the Badgers with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the three-point line.

LSUS (9-5) will next travel to face William Carey on Thursday night in Hattiesburg.
