Pilots Move Closer to Title, Oust Rams

May 06, 2007
MOBILE, Ala—The Louisiana State University Shreveport Pilots eliminated the University of Mobile baseball team from the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament with a 5-0 victory.

LSU-S rode a dominant pitching performance from Mark Dainty and got some early runs to move one step closer to the GCAC Tournament Championship. They will play William Carey University Saturday at 2:00 and will have two chances if need be to beat the Crusaders once.

Dainty took the mound for the #2 seed Pilots and dazzled, twirling 9 shutout innings and fanning 8 Ram batters. The righty held the Mobile bats to only 2 singles through the first 8 innings of play, before the Rams touched him for a double and 2 base hits in the final frame.

Dainty got the better of Kyle McPherson who went 7 solid innings for the Rams, giving up 5 runs and fanning 2. The 6’5 junior got some help from the Pilots offense early and quickly settled in on the mound.

The Pilots struck first in the game thanks to a lead off double from Quinton Shamsabody. After the double, a fly ball moved the 1st baseman to 3rd and a wild pitch from Rams’ starter Kyle McPherson plated him for the early 1-0 LSUS edge.

LSUS tacked on 2 more in the bottom of the 2nd when Andrew Blubaugh delivered the 3rd single of the inning, a 2-run base knock to right center field. Scott Talley and Brent Lavallee tacked on RBIs in the bottom of the 8th to put the game away
