Pilots mount second half comeback to beat Badgers 72-64

The LSUS Pilots (18-11) were looking to win their 9th game in their last 10 tries Saturday night when they hosted the Spring Hill College Badgers (14-16, 5-11). Thanks to a second half turnaround after trailing by as many as 11 points, the Pilots defeated the Badgers 72-64 and improved their home record to 11-1.
In the first half the Badgers built a 35-28 lead by shooting 16-28 from the floor. Seven players scored for Spring Hill in the half; Pierre DuVentre had 9 points, followed by Nate Williams with 6 to lead the Badgers. The Pilots struggled from the field in the first half as they only connected on 11 of 37 shot attempts, and only 3-16 from beyond the three point line. Pilot Fredericko Payne was the leading scorer at the half with 12 points. Teammate Derrick Rogers chipped in with 8 points and 4 rebounds.
The Pilots gained their first lead of the night with 9:50 remaining in the game. LSUS finished the second half shooting 13 of 21 from the field and added 15 free throws on 20 attempts. Derrick Rogers finished with a 20 point second half performance and led the Pilots to their 17 win of the year over the Badgers. Rogers finished with a game high 28 points. Fredericko Payne ended with 18 points and added 4 steals and 2 assists. Derrick Kibler was the high scorer for the Badgers with 17 points. Spring Hill finished the game shooting 50% from the field and 8 of 12 from the free throw line.
LSUS has won 9 of their last 10 games and look to improve on their 10-6 GCAC record Thursday night when they take on the Loyola University Wolfpack in their last home game of the season. Game time is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm.
